Another sports superstar's home has been broken into…this time an NHL player's apartment Yevgeny Malkin was hit — and his Stanley Cup rings were reportedly stolen in the robbery.
The break-in occurred on Jan. 11 in the Sewickley Heights area of Pennsylvania – around the time Malkin's Penguins were playing the Ottawa Senators at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.
Accordingly, Malkin's home security system failed for some reason during the break-in CBS Newsand all three of his championship rings were subsequently taken.
A spokesman for the Allegheny County Police Department recounts TMZ Sports They have launched an investigation into the incident…and are urging anyone with information to call their tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
The Penguins said in a statement Tuesday that they are “working closely with local authorities and team security” to try to identify some suspects.
“Malkin has asked that his privacy be respected during this time,” the team added, “and we will have no further comment on this matter.”
Malkin – who did not play on Saturday due to an injury – unfortunately now joins a long list of celebrity athletes who have had their homes burglarized in recent months.
Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Luka Doncic and many others have had their locations searched … and the FBI said in a warning to pro stars last month that it believes they are all connected.
