Veteran Channel 9 news anchor Tony Jones says he will take on Danielle Collins' Brat dance challenge – but only if the fiery American does it with him.

Jones branded Collins a “brat” last week after she criticized the crowd in Melbourne as “super drunk”, slapped him on the bum and boasted about her dazzling winner's cheque.

“My opinion is that she's a brat,” he told 3AW Drive.

“When you have people like Danielle Collins who lives this (luxurious) lifestyle and then rubs it in our noses… I thought she went too far.”

But Collins, who responded quickly, took a screenshot of Jones' comments and posted them to her Instagram Story along with a sarcastic caption.

After his loss on Saturday night, Collins spoke more about Jones in his press conference.

'I love this old man, Tony Jones… I love how he called me a brat. “It's so Gen Z and Millennial right now with Charli XCX,” he said.

'I really want him to do the dance. He has to do it. I really want to have a face to face with him, and we have to do the dance.

Speaking on Nine's The Morning Serve on Sunday morning, Jones accepted the challenge – but only if Collins takes it up with him.

“The challenge is out there, how can I say no?” he said.

Former tennis great Casey Delacqua commented that it would be “a sight to see.”

The raucous Melbourne crowd enjoyed the last laugh over Collins, who suffered a 6-4 6-4 third-round exit at the hands of compatriot Madison Keys on Saturday night.

Booed from the moment she set foot on Rod Laver Arena, the 10th-seeded Collins was stoic.

'Yes, I expected that (boos), obviously. “It's okay,” Collins said.

'I really enjoy playing in these types of environments. It's what you worked so hard for all your life as a child. I hugged him.

'The most important thing is that no one was hurt.

'Maybe some feelings were hurt or things were taken personally, and the crowd probably shouldn't have taken them personally.

“But yeah, I feel like sometimes people take life too seriously.”
