Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi suffered a brain shock and a broken nose during the victory of Nottingham Forest shooting over Exeter on Tuesday night.
The Nigerian striker required more than 10 minutes of treatment before leaving the field on a stretcher after colliding with the elbow of the exeter goalkeeper Joe Whitworth towards the end of the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Despite the initial fears that his condition could be more serious, Espirito Santo revealed to Awoniyi, who had scored before the injury, would travel back to Midlands with the rest of the team.
He said: 'He had a brain shock and I think his nose broke, so much pain, but he has a smile on his face because he did an incredible job. We are delighted with him.
Forest faced an almighty scare in Devon before a 2-2 draw took the game to penalties. Holy Spirit risked the accusations of complacency after making 10 changes next to him, but defended his selection.
He said: 'It's not about resting (players), it's about how we approach the competition. We did the same in Luton, and we are probably going to do the same (again) because, unfortunately, we cannot give minutes to all the players. So this is a reward for all players who worked so hard, young people. It is good for us.
