Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley — who just won a bronze medal for the U.S. at the 2024 Paris Games — was arrested Thursday night … after being verbally abused during a wild confrontation with police officers that was captured in its entirety on police video.
According to the Miami Beach Police Department … an encounter between officers and the 29-year-old occurred around 11:22 p.m. – as they were involved in “an active police scene.”
Police wrote in an incident report that Kerley approached them with “aggressive behavior” … and expressed concern about his car parked nearby.
Bodycam footage shows officers trying to resolve the situation… Kerley became argumentative – and seconds later appeared to push a police officer.
Check out the video… the push sparked a riot – several officers jumped in to wrestle the American runner to the ground.
Despite being attacked multiple times, Kerley still appeared to resist – prompting a police officer to deploy his Taser. The move then appeared to allow officers to gain control and handcuff Kerley.
While in custody, Kerley could be heard yelling at officers and repeatedly calling them “weak” before he was eventually taken to a nearby jail.
Records show he was finally charged at 4:07 a.m. Friday on three charges – including assault on a police officer.
Kerley, who is expected to face a judge soon on the matter, is a highly decorated athlete – in addition to the bronze medal he won in the 100-meter dash over the summer, he also won at the 2020 Tokyo Games a silver medal.
