Singer Brenton Woodbest known for his 1967 hit “The Oogum Boogum Song,” has died, TMZ has learned.
Wood's manager and assistant, Manny Gallegosconfirmed the news to TMZ, announcing that he passed away today at his home in Moreno Valley, California, surrounded by friends and family.
The cause of death is not yet known.
Born Alfred Jesse SmithHe adopted the stage name Brenton Wood and made a career in the soul scene with his unique blend of R&B and pop.
He scored a number of hits in the '60s and '70s, including the popular songs “Gimme Little Sign” and “Baby You Got It.”
Brenton was 83.
