Firefighters and police rushed to urgently rescue elderly residents of a Pasadena senior center Tuesday night as the flames of a raging fire in the Angeles National Forest crept dangerously close — and the scenes are harrowing.
You can watch the dramatic evacuation of about 100 residents – many in wheelchairs – in a 7-Eleven parking lot across from The Terraces at Park Marino, as embers and ash swirl in the chaos of a nearby wildfire… spurred by what meteorologists call a one of the worst storms in LA in the last decade.
An armored SWAT police vehicle and a bus were deployed to move seniors away from the Eaton Fire – the second major wildfire to hit LA County in the past 24 hours.
The fire started around 6pm on Tuesday and destroyed more than 400 hectares of bushland in just two hours.
Pasadena Fire Department crews said the unrelenting winds caused the flames to behave erratically and spread at breakneck speeds – just like the Pacific Palisades fire This started on the same day.
A strong wind warning is expected to remain in force until 6pm on Wednesday.
