Warriors coach Steve Kerr opted to prepare for his team's NBA game against the Celtics rather than witness President Trump's inauguration.
But it didn't help Golden State, which suffered its worst home loss in four decades at the hands of Boston on Monday night.
Kerr has long been an outspoken critic of Trump and gave a brutal speech in support of Kamala Harris at the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
On Monday, however, Kerr kept his attention on Boston rather than Washington, where Trump was sworn in for a second term.
“I didn't see the inauguration. I chose to watch the Celtics tape,” said Kerr, who recently lost his childhood home in the Los Angeles wildfires.
But that extra preparation couldn't prevent the Warriors from suffering a humiliating 125-85 loss to the Celtics on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Golden State had not lost by 40 points at home since Jan. 15, 1985. But this loss came less than a year after the Celtics beat the Warriors 140-88.
Kerr made headlines for her comments about Trump at the Democratic National Committee, when she mocked the then-Republican candidate and borrowed Steph Curry's “night night” celebration.
'As a coach and former player, as a husband, son, father, even grandfather, and as an American, I believe in a certain type of leadership.
'I think leaders should show dignity. “I think leaders need to tell the truth,” Kerr told the crowd.
'Shouldn't you want those same qualities in your president?' continuous. “When you think about it that way, this is not a competition.”
Kerr then put his hands to his head and swore that, after election night, “In the words of the great Steph Curry, we can say to Donald Trump: “Night, night.”
In the end, Trump defeated Harris to win a second term as president.
The following night, Kerr sarcastically mocked Trump for his previous claim that the 2020 election was stolen.
“I want the next four years to do well. I want our country to do well. I'm just grateful that there was no voter fraud this time,” Kerr said.

Golden State suffered its worst home loss in four decades at the hands of Boston on Monday.
'Last time (in 2020), I mean, all those illegal immigrants storming the border, raping and murdering people and then voting six times, it was unfortunate.
But fortunately this time everything was clean. “So it's great that all the elections were actually valid except the last one, four years ago.”
Monday night, Jayson Tatum led six Boston players in double figures with a game-high 22 points.
Kristaps Porzingis added 18 points and Jaylen Brown scored 17 for Boston. The Celtics lost the first game of the season series against Golden State, for the fourth consecutive season, before tying it, and then some, in the rematch.
