A Leger survey published this week found that Trump's threats are promoting a wave of national pride, with 85 percent of Canadians who say they are proud to be Canadians.
Stewart Pers, Professor of Political Science at British Columbia University, said people see the flag again as a symbol of tolerance and inclusion, and Canadian distinction of the United States. “I think many people, although they do not necessarily want to take a hard political position, are responding to what is happening in North America,” Denham added. “They want to show that they are Canadians.
“They believe in being strong Canadians and making their subtle statement that they want to remain unified.”
Candice Mauro, president of processes in Calgary, echoed a similar feeling, saying that sales began to increase after Trump's comments on Canada became an American state.
“You are seeing an increase in pride,” he said. “People who have been talking to our employees want the flags for their farms. They want them for their surfaces or even just because of the post they have in their backyard. ”
Flags Unlimited, another Canadian company, said he has seen the sales of the double national flag since the same time a year ago.
And on the other hand, Mauro said they have not had sales in the United States in February so far.
While Trump continues to pushing Canada as an adversary, Mauro is happy that people are showing his Canadian pride one flag at the same time.
