The Northern Irish defeated JJ Spaun (in the photo) for a three -hole tie -breashes, with the American finding the water in the 17th torque.
Spaun, the winner of Valero de Valero de Valero Texas 2022, had the opportunity to secure the tournament on Sunday with a 30 -foot putt Birdie in 18, but could not slide the shot home, with the world no 57 leaving its brief putt, before taking advantage of the pair to take the tournament to a playoff.
But the playoff was perhaps a disappointing end for its time in Sawgrass, with the American star impressing this week.
Mcilroy had the honor with the couple retiring in Hole 16 in TPC Sawgrass. It was an uncomfortable start to the 2019 players champion, whose shirt shot seemed to land in a divot on 16.
However, it would not be a big problem for the race six times for the winner of Dubai, who launched an iron from nine to the green at 16th of five before taking advantage of a Birdie while Spaun took advantage of the pair.
It meant that Mcilroy took the honor in the shirt in the infamous par-three years 17. With the wind turning on the faces of both players, the five times old winner dropped his ball in the heart of the green with an excellent blow of Tee.

Despite taking advantage, Mcilroy was wandering with his putter, which perhaps was not indicative of his week with the flat stick. He sent his Birdie Putt far beyond the hole and could not slide his next time. Spuan would continue with an acute bogey.
With a three-shooting advantage entering the 18, Mcilroy cut his impulse in the trees to the right of the lake, while Spaun followed him, sending his tee-shot to the customers on the right flank of the street.
Mcilroy then dropped an approach to Green, before two putting to load a bogey in the last to win the players championship.
