World No2 Rory Mcilroy has talked about a possible agreement to unite golf.
The launch of the LIV golf backed by Saudi in 2022 caused a division in sport, with the American duo Brooks Koepka and Bryson Dechambeau among high -profile players to leave the PGA tour for new pastures.
A potential fusion was first discussed in 2023, and the conversations took place between the PGA Tour, the president of Liv Golf, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, and the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in the White House last month.
However, Mcilroy still believes that there is a long way to go before an agreement between the relevant parties is reached.
“I don't think it's so close, but it doesn't seem to be closer,” Mcilroy told journalists when they give their verdict on a possible agreement.
'I think the narration around golf would welcome a deal in terms of having the best players together again.

“But I don't think the PGA Tour needs a deal.”
Mcilroy hinted that a reluctance to find common land could be holding a truce between the PGA Tour and Liv Golf, but is convinced that the first remains as strong as ever.
Explaining why an agreement was not yet in place, Mcilroy replied: 'Two are needed for tango.
'If one of the parts is arranged and ready and the other does not make it difficult.
'The landscape could have seemed a bit different from what he does now in recent weeks.
“I think a deal would continue to be the ideal setting for golf as a whole, but from a pure PGA perspective, I do not necessarily need it.”
