Ruben Amorim has explained Marcus Rashford's absence after the forward was left out of Manchester United's squad for Sunday's trip to rivals Liverpool.
Rashford, 27, was sent off for four games by Ruben Amorim before returning to the bench in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle in the final game of last year, and was missing again for the visit to Anfield.
Much has been said about the Englishman's current situation after Rashford indicated his desire to leave the club after being ruled out of the Manchester derby.
United are willing to let the club's highest-earning player leave in the January transfer window after he publicly stated he wants a “new challenge” and AC Milan have reportedly shown interest in landing a assignment.
Now, Amorim has confirmed the reason for Rashford's latest absence and explained that it was not related to any disciplinary issue.
Instead, the United boss confirmed that the winger was not available for selection this week because he missed training due to an illness from which he is still recovering.

Ruben Amorim confirmed that Rashford missed the trip after suffering illness during the week.
Speaking ahead of the match at Anfield, Amorim said: “Marcus Rashford is still ill so he is not available for today's match.”
Rashford has scored seven goals against Liverpool in his career, more than any other Premier League club.
The striker will have to watch from home as United try to pull off a major upset.
News of Rashford's unavailability was expected as Amorim expressed concern that the player had
'It's the same situation. He is currently sick. He is not training,” Amorim said in the pre-match press conference.
