A year after falling three points short of a championship in Super Bowl LVIII, the San Francisco 49ers will not return to the playoffs and will have a losing record.
But the change won't reach the coaching staff or the executive level, at least not at the top of the food chain.
Talking to him San Francisco Standard49ers owner Jed York says both head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch will return to the team for the 2025 season.
“You can write that for sure,” York told the Standard before the Niners' game against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. “They're not going anywhere.”
That response came after the Standard asked about rumors suggesting other teams could arrange a potential trade for Shanahan.
While York admitted to the outlet that the team was unhappy with its current situation, the owner doesn't believe cleaning house would help the team's future.

Niners CEO Jed York not happy with season, but doesn't want to clean up just yet
Shanahan dismissed any thoughts of a trade in early December when he said, “I don't want to be anywhere else in the world but here.”
Lynch expressed similar wishes for Shanahan to stay there on December 8: “I found the whole discussion about Kyle and some of the stuff pretty comical,” Lynch told San Francisco radio station KNBR. 'We have won four of the last five division championships. We've been to two Super Bowls.
“The standard here is to win championships and we haven't achieved that, but we have a great coach.” And the fact that people talk about things like that seems funny to me.
After entering the season with hopes of returning to the top of the NFL world, the 49ers sadly fell short of expectations. They currently own a 6-10 record, having lost seven of their last eight games, including Monday night.
A lot of that is due to injuries. At the time of publication, 21 49ers players are listed on the team's injury report.
That includes key starters on injured reserve, including pass rusher Javon Hargrave, guard Jon Feliciano, running back Christian McCaffrey, guard Ben Bartch and offensive tackle Trent Williams.
Entering the final week of the season, both quarterback Brock Purdy and cornerback Charvarius Ward have been listed as questionable, while linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been ruled out.
