The co-writer of “Shock Me” from '80s classic “Perfect” isn't thrilled that his song has been thrust into the spotlight Jimmy Fallon's viral sketch with Jamie Lee Curtis – tells TMZ he didn't see a dime for it!
Bruce Roberts tells TMZ he's upset. NBC didn't approve the use of his song, and when he asked about it, he claimed they hit him with the excuse “It's a parody” – meaning no royalty was required.
He says nonsense, though, and points out that the Tonight Show segment may have been a parody, but the song is spot on from the movie.
Bruce didn't hold back, telling us, “They basically said 'fuck you,' which just pissed me off even more.”
He tells us it's not about the money, but about the principle. He's tired of writers getting upset when songs aren't approved, and he's not having that.
Bruce – and Sony Pictures, which owns the masters – have been watching NBC for weeks looking for answers… but so far they haven't been read.
Bruce holds no grudge against Fallon, saying he knows him personally and doubts he even knows about the whole mess. He assumes that Jimmy is just busy and that his coworkers usually take care of this sort of thing.
Bottom line, he tells us he's not a fan of lawsuits and hopes everything gets sorted out before it even happens.
We've contacted NBC…no response yet.
