Sir Clive Woodward: Why my glass is half full despite England's fate and the encounter with Scotland fans who made Win sweeter

The last two games of the six nations of England have not been good for the heart rate of the country's rugby supporters. Certainly, two victories of one point have had me on the edge of my seat.

As they did against France, England on Saturday night claimed the Calcuta Cup for the narrowest margins. The victory over the French was perhaps fortunate given the amount of possibilities that bleed wasted. And against Scotland, England was overcome three attempts.

But my glass is firmly full because, although some could say that England has been fortunate in their last two games, my opinion is really growing as a team.

International Rugby is a results business and England has delivered on that forehead since it was defeated by Ireland in Dublin.

I think we are really prepared for an intriguing end for the six nations now. After Wales gives him a real scare, Ireland is still in Grand Slam.

Clearly, his next game at home to France will be a definition of the championship. England will need the side of Fabien Gallthie to do a favor there and if France can do the business, I think England can be disputed by the title with Italy and then Wales left to play.

England is doing many things well. Despite granting three attempts to Scotland, I thought his defense was very, very good. The past fall, his bombing approach was everywhere.

Do not be misunderstood, things are not perfect. But England looks like a much more cohesive unit without the ball. Now they have to continue learning and improving. But it is much easier to do it as a team when you are winning and England now has consecutive victories.

When I talk about learning, they are small moments that may seem insignificant at that time. A good example was in the last agony of the game when Elliot Daly went to the fullest, allowing Scotland to attack. It was from there that they made the rest line where Duhan Van Der Merwe scored his attempt. If Finn Russell had converted, Scotland would have won.

Better sides will not make those mistakes. England can get yours making small mistakes against teams such as Scotland and you can still win. But teams like South Africa and New Zealand will not be so generous.

England can also learn a lot from Scotland, particularly in attack. But I thought they were the hardest side in general and deserved to win. I predicted a comfortable victory in England, so I was receiving abuses from Scottish Twickenham fans, so I am delighted that the team has come out at the top.

England can trust the fact that its players stood in key moments. End Smith nailed that monstrous late penalty that ended up being crucial. Maro Itoje made a key robbery. There were others throughout the game.

Steve Borthwick needs to drive home that your side can still improve

Since he took care of the captaincy, I think Itoje has been very impressive. He went through a spell with England where he was not at his best, perhaps due to the huge amounts of rugby he plays. But instead of being charged by the captaincy, it seems to have accepted responsibility.

Borthwick needs to take home the message that England can still improve and also play faster.

Scotland is now in a hole. This is supposed to be a golden generation of Scottish players, but again they have fallen short. Russell is a wonderful player, but when Scotland needed his kicks, he did not deliver. That is the brutal truth and something that will recognize.

What is now fascinating in the back of Scotland losing consecutive and Wales games that is revitalized against Ireland is that the game between those sides looks very tight to call.

I don't think any team wants to play against England with the feeling of impulse that is now behind them. The reality is that England should be defeating Italy and Wales. Such scenario will put them in the containment of the championship. Even if Ireland proves to be too good and win a Grand Slam, England pressed them hard shows signs of real progress.

England is on the right path. And love that.
