- Sir Alex led Man United to 38 trophies in a reign of 26 years before retiring in 2013
- The Scotsman lost his role as ambassador to Man United as part of Sir Jim's wild cuts
- Listen now: Everything is starting! With the Premier League probably ensuring five places in the Champions League, are we rewarding mediocrity?
Sir Alex Ferguson became the victim more high profile of the ruthless cost reduction of Sir Jim Ratcliffe in Man United when the legendary club manager lost his contract of £ 2 million a year as a world ambassador last October.
The decision once again demonstrated Ratcliffe's determination to reduce costs with the club last month announcing plans to make up to 200 more layoffs, and the staff is expected to learn their destination in April.
Ratcliffe informed Ferguson about his decision at a face to face in Old Trafford, ending his 38 years as an employee paid in United after this season.
It was a brave decision of Sir Jim and not only because Sir Alex is one of the most popular and revered figures in the history of Man United, after having won 38 trophies in his 26 years as manager.
The 83 -year -old Scotsman is not a man to cross slightly and is recognized for giving the 'dryer treatment' to those who bother him.
And now, Sir Jim has opened for the first time about how that meeting was with Sir Alex.

Sir Alex will continue to be a regular presence in Old Trafford despite having lost his job.
“I take off Alex's hat,” said Sir Jim to BBC.
“I sat down with Alex, only both in the room, and said:” Look, the club is not where you can think. He is spending more than he is winning and we will end up in some difficulties. Honestly, we really can't afford to continue paying £ 2 million a year. “
“I said” I'm going to leave it with you, let you think about it. ”
'He was very adult. Maybe a little grumpy at the beginning, but he got it, and returned three days later, after talking to his son, and said “Well, I'm going to get away from that. My decision.”
“I think it reflects very well in Alex, because he put the club in front of himself.”
