Southampton are in talks with the Football Association over their plan to appoint Johannes Spors as the new technical director after the move hit labor bureaucracy.
Mail Sport were first to reveal that Spors were the leading candidate to replace Jason Wilcox, who left St Mary's for Manchester United last April, last Thursday.
But that move has hit a roadblock due to initial difficulties getting Spors a work permit.
However, Saints are in talks with the FA to try to overcome the issues as they attempt to formally appoint Spors to the role in the near future.
It remains to be seen whether the complications can be resolved, but Southampton are still hopeful that Spors can fill the position.
Spors is currently the global sporting director of the 777 Group, which has interests in Genoa, Seville, Standard Liege and Vasco De Gama, but has agreed to take up the role at Southampton.
