Steve Thompson has become a surprise candidate for the work of the vacant manager in Bolton Wanderers as part of a former duo of players.
Thompson, who accumulated more than 300 appearances for Bolton, has been considered after Ian Evatt was fired last week.
Neil Redfearn arrived at the club with Thompson in the 1980s and after successful training spells in Leeds United and Oldham Athletic, the couple seeks to join forces again.
Bolton-Seventh in the League one after the 3-1 victory on Tuesday night against Northampton Town, separated from Evatt after a mixed series of results in their search for the playoffs.
It is believed that Steven Schmuacher is one of the main candidates for paper after a brief spell by the Stoke City championship.
Thompson has rejected the offers of numbers at home and abroad in the last 12 months, but is eager to return to management.

Redfearn and Thompson have history together after stabilizing the ship in Elland Road in 2014 under the infamous former owner Massimo Cellino.
The couple resigned interim at Oldham in 2023 after their positions became unsustainable, even during an undefeated race of six games after David Unsworth was fired.
Thompson was integral during the improbable increase in Blackpool through divisions, finally reaching the Premier League in 2010, and served as coach under Simon Grayson and Alex Neil in Preston North End.
Redfearn played for Bolton between 1982 and 1984. The race as a Thompson player with the Trotters also began in 1982 and stayed with the club until 1991.
