Stunned self-help author reacts as book tops best-seller list after NFL star AJ Brown reads it on the sidelines

After all, NFL fans might be readers.

That might explain why author Jim Murphy's self-help book, Inner Excellence, shot to No. 1 on Amazon's best-seller list after Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown was seen reading it during the win. Sunday over the Green Bay Packers.

“I was amazed at what God does and is doing,” Murphy, a former college football player and minor league baseball player, told DailyMail.com on Monday. 'The message AJ shares with the world is the pursuit of inner excellence. It is the search for a life without fear.'

The book has certainly gained exposure since Brown was seen flipping through the pages on the sideline at Lincoln Financial Field, where the Eagles cruised to a 22-10 victory. In the hours since, the book went viral online and even Philadelphia's Fox 29 had a pair of hosts reading it on Monday's broadcast.

Although Murphy is a firm believer in the book and its message about altruism, he admitted that the sudden surge in sales took him by surprise.

He was actually watching a replay of Notre Dame's Orange Bowl victory over Penn State when his phone started ringing with the news that his book was going viral.

This isn't the first time Brown has taken the book to the NFL sideline to read during the game. In fact, as he later explained to reporters, he takes it to every game.

“It gives me a sense of peace,” Brown said of reading the book during games. 'That's a book I take to every game. My teammates call it “the recipe.” This is the first time I've heard that you guys have me in front of the camera. It's not the first game.

“There's a lot of points there. A lot of mental parts to it. For me, this game is mental. Physically I feel like I can do anything.

“I always go back to that book after every trip and refocus.”

While Sunday's great interest in Interior Excellence It was a surprise, Murphy was aware that Brown was accepting the book.

As Murphy explained, someone he knows who works with the Christian sports organization Atletas en Acción informed him that defensive lineman Moro Ojomo had given it to Brown.

“I knew a few weeks ago,” Murphy said. “I didn't know I read it after every trip.”

Brown shared the image of his worn copy of the book online. Not only was it underlined, but it also had yellow highlighter streaks and several dog ears marking several pages.

Murphy, a mental skills coach who also works as a strength and conditioning specialist, explained that the book focuses on love and the dangers of self-centered behavior.

“With love there is no fear,” Murphy said. “It is the most powerful force in the universe.”

The book also helps readers focus on their long-term goals rather than their immediate concerns.

“Being able to focus on transactions well beyond the temporal can help you perform better in the moment,” Murphy added.

Brown was unusually quiet Sunday, recording just one pass for 10 yards on 10 targets.

Of course, teammate Saquon Barkley fueled the Eagles' offense with 119 yards on 25 carries, which is a big reason why Philadelphia won so easily.

The Eagles will then host the winner of Monday's Vikings-Rams game in next weekend's Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.

So no matter what happens, Inner Excellence will return to the sidelines of Lincoln Financial Field.
