The Dodgers star needed emergency surgery last July after the lettuce stuck in the throat

The Dodgers pitcher, Dustin May, revealed that he needed emergency surgery last July due to a complete complete accident 'injury he suffered while having dinner.

May, who was still recovering from a flexor tendon and a review surgery of Tommy John that underwent during the 2023 season, was approaching the field when he hit the disaster.

While dining on July 10, May ordered a salad and a piece of lettuce in his throat was stuck, which led him to drink a sip of water to try to wash it.

However, the relief launcher suffered a tear in his esophagus and said he felt a feeling of 'mega painful' in his throat and stomach, such as the Los Angeles Times reported.

After returning home and thinking that he was fine, his wife urged him to go to the emergency room, where doctors quickly took him to surgery.

The procedure, which the 27 -year -old called “basically full abdominal surgery”, left it with a considerable scar and a six -month recovery timeline that did not see it again until November.

“It was definitely an event that alters life,” said May on Friday of the Spring Training of the Dodgers. It was definitely very serious. It is not very common surgery. It was definitely an emergency.

Later he continued: 'He simply gives me a different point of view about many things in life. Just seeing how something related to baseball can be, it can disappear in a second. And the things I put my wife, definitely gave me (a feeling) of 'wow, things can change like this'. It was definitely very scary.

May lost the rest of the 2024 season of the Dodgers after submitting to surgery, although he added that he would probably not survive if it were not for the procedure.

It happened to win the World Series without him, beating the Yankees in the final stage.

May is now fighting for a place in the Dodgers list while trying to leave the terrible experience behind him.
