Dutch footballer Memphis Depay received his sentence for a court in Monaco on Wednesday, and received a suspended sentence of four months, as well as a fine of € 9,000 (£ 7,500) and a two -year driving prohibition in Monaco.
The 30 -year -old, who now plays for Corinthians in Brazil after being released by Atlético de Madrid last summer, issued an apology on Instagram after the sentence was delivered.
“I would like to apologize here,” Depay wrote. 'Last summer, during my vacation in Monaco, I made a mistake and decided to drive home after having a drink in a restaurant. I should have entered a taxi in its place, but I did not.

Depay had a two -year disappointing spell at Manchester United between 2015 and 2017
'That's why I want to apologize and assume all the responsibility of my actions. 2024 was a year of lessons and I will definitely learn from this.
'In 2025, we will do it better.'
DEPAY is a family name for United fans after playing for the club between 2015 and 2017.
Luis Van Gaal signed it only one year after the couple worked together to help the Netherlands to finish third in the 2014 World Cup.
However, Depay's stay in Manchester was miserable, since he scored only seven goals in 53 appearances before leaving after two years to join Lyon.
Despite his own problems, Depay still won the FA Cup, the Europa League and the League Cup while in United.
Since then he has played for Barcelona and Atlético before leaving Spain to move to Brazil in September.
In 18 appearances for Corinthians in all competitions, Depay has scored seven goals.
