The former New York Jet player Mike Battle, died at the age of 78, announced his old school.
Battle, an American defensive defense and a member of the 1967 National Championship team of the USC, died of natural causes on March 6 in Nellysford, Virginia.
His wife Laura and the children Christian Michael, Hunter, Frank, Michael, Kathleen, Murphy and Annie survive.
In 1967, Battle led a USC defense that allowed only 87 points throughout the season. The Trojans had 26-6-1 and won three conference titles during their three years of career.
He played at the Rose Bowl games of 1967, 1968 and 1969, all won by the Trojans.
The defensive star was the annual leader of Clear of the USC in each of its three seasons and still has the school record for most of the clearings returned in a season.

He was the NCAA statistical champion in 1967, when he had 49 returns for 608 yards, an average of 12.4 yards.
He also maintains the school brand for most clearing returned with 99 during his three years.
The battle was chosen in the twelfth Round of the NFL Draft of 1969 by the Jets and played in New York for two seasons since 1969-70.
