A former football star from the University of Texas was arrested for minor crimes of property robbery and interference of public duties.

The Texas Longhorns Johntay Cook II Open Receiver, which was a five -star recruit in the 2023 class of Desto, Texas, was detained at the Lon Evans corrections center in Fort Worth, Texas, according to judicial records.

Texas's leadership coach Steve Sarkisian, did not reveal any specific detail of why Cook left the team, but said the choice was mutual.

“We have nothing more than respect for (cook) and his family,” Sarkisian said at that time. “We wish you the best of luck in their future efforts.”

It was not part of the team when they ran to the semifinals of university American football playoffs before falling to the eventual national champion of Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl Classic.

According to 247Sports, Cook is a three -star transfer and listing as the 39th best receiver in the portal.

Initially he promised with the University of Washington at the end of December 2024 before re -entered the portal on January 14.

Last season with the Longhorns, Cook caught eight passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns. The year ended as the ninth best team receiver.

In his career, he has 16 trapped for 273 yards and two total touchdowns.
