Tim Sherwood strangely left Mohamed Salah out of his Premier League team of the season so far.

The former Tottenham boss was tasked with selecting a best XI for the middle of the campaign without choosing more than one player from the same team.

With Liverpool storming to the top of the table after a phenomenal start under Arne Slot, Sherwood certainly had multiple candidates to choose from when selecting a Reds representative.

Arguably chief among them was Salah, who has already recorded 30 goal contributions and sits at the top of the top-flight scoring and assist charts.

But Sherwood was unable to find a place for the 32-year-old in his team and instead selected Trent Alexander-Arnold as his only Liverpool player.

Salah's omission surprised fans on social media, with many wondering how he could be left out after such a prolific start to the season.

One wrote: “Bowen on Salah is all it takes to know the kind of football knowledge some pundits really have.”

Another agreed: “Sorry I don't really like Liverpool but it's a crime Salah isn't there.”

Jordan Pickford

Milos Kerkez, Marc Guehi, Nikola Milenkovic, Trent Alexander-Arnold

Matheus Cunha, Cole Palmer, Dejan Kulusevski

Jarrod Bowen, Alexander Isak, Bukayo Saka

A third added: “It's ridiculous, not Salah.” Not to mention Guehi and Bowen on the team. Is Wood a joke to you? How about Wissa and Mbeumo? Robinson also easily fills Kerkez's position. Overall, a terrible lineup.

With Jordan Pickford selected in goal, Alexander-Arnold was accompanied in defense by Nottingham Forest's Nikola Milenkovic, Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi and Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez.

Sherwood opted for a three-man midfield with Spurs' Dejan Kulusevski, Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer and Wolves' Matheus Cunha.

For his front three Sherwood selected Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, West Ham star Jarrod Bowen and Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Sherwood made headlines at the end of last season for an awkward pitchside interview with Cole Palmer after Chelsea beat Newcastle.

“All you need are some players to play with,” Sherwood said, followed by an awkward silence as Palmer looked at him with a blank expression.

'I know you can't say that, but I say it. I just think you need more quality around you.'
