Tommy Fury has finally detailed the reasons why he and his fiancée Molly-Mae Hague split.
In an emotional interview with Men's health Conveniently timed days before Molly-Maey's long-awaited documentary is released, she became dependent on alcohol following a boxing injury and admitted her mental health was “in the frying pan.”
Amid rumors that their breakup in August 2024 was a publicity season, Tommy spoke candidly about his mental health battle and insisted he had never cheated on Molly-Mae calling rumors about other women complete and utter idiots.
“The reason Molly and I broke up was because I became addicted to alcohol and could no longer be the couple I wanted to be,” he confessed.
'It kills me to say it, (but) it's true, I couldn't. I loved a pint of beer, I loved drinking and it is what it is. People go through different things in life and we all have our crosses to bear. I have to bear mine.
Tommy explained how his problems began when he underwent reconstructive surgery in January 2024, after tearing all the ligaments in his hand in 2019.
Tommy Fury has finally detailed the reasons why he and his fiancée Molly-Mae Hague split in an emotional interview with Men's Health.
He said his “mental health was at stake” during his recovery from surgery, which came after the “best year I've ever had” in 2023, in which both his career and his life with Molly flourished.
Explaining how a big part of his identity was taken away from him when he could no longer train, Tommy said his diet and fitness were the first things he let go before turning to alcohol.
“I have only lived to train and for my family, and that was taken from me. So what I did for fun was I started drinking a lot. I found that's what made me feel better,” he said, adding:
“I wanted the endorphins that I would get when I finished a good session, when I finished training, when I finished fighting.”
Admitting that he went out most nights and drank until he was “blackout drunk”, Tommy's relationship soon began to suffer.
Tommy insisted he never cheated and maintained a close bond with his daughter Bambi during the dark period.
'The cheats never existed. You can ask Molly this yourself. It was the drink, and the drink is not a good thing. You have to control it.'
'If you're in the same situation as me, where you think it's going to cure all your problems, it's not. You wake up even worse and want to drink more to try to feel happy again. That's the cycle.”
