Tottenham are among several European giants wanting to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United.
Spurs are looking to strengthen their attacking options and rescue their season despite being the second top scorers in the Premier League.
However, they could face competition from Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan as their representatives have flown in for talks with the latter. Juventus and Galatasaray are also interested.
Rashford admitted in an explosive interview last month that he is ready for a “new challenge” and spoke of leaving Old Trafford as a “when”, not an “if”.
However, any deal would depend on what proportion of his salary United are willing to pay, as well as the size of the fee if there is an obligation to buy.
The striker's weekly wage is believed to be around £325,000.
Tottenham want Marcus Rashford on loan, but face competition from AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund
Rashford has not played after Ruben Amorim left him out of the Manchester derby last month.
Ange Postecoglou wants to strengthen his attacking options with Spurs in 12th place in the table, although scoring has not been a problem.
United paid a portion of Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood's earnings to loan them to Dortmund and Getafe respectively last season.
AC Milan have made the most visible progress yet by welcoming Rashford's brother and agent Dwaine Maynard for talks on Tuesday.
They are currently eighth in Serie A and have struggled for goals this season.
The Italian giants' problems led to the departure of coach Paulo Fonesca last month, with Sergio Conceicao since taking charge.
Conceicao led AC Milan to a 3-2 victory over city rivals Inter in the Italian Super Cup on Monday, with England international Tammy Abraham scoring the winning goal in added time.
Rashford's former Manchester United teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a key figure at AC Milan, with the 43-year-old serving as a senior advisor to the club's ownership.
Ideally, United would want to sell for £40m a man whose contract runs until 2028 after his extension in 2023.
Ruben Amorim has not played against Rashford since coming on as a substitute against Nottingham Forest on December 7, although he returned to the bench in last week's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

Rashford admitted last month that he is looking for a “new challenge” away from Manchester United.
Asked why he had been ruled out of the Manchester derby, Amorim said: “The national team.” We try to evaluate everything: training, performance, game performance, commitment to teammates, drive from teammates. “Everything is at stake when we analyze and try to choose players, so that's my selection.”
Rashford has 60 caps but missed out on a place in the England squad at the Euros and revealed he hoped to represent the Three Lions at the World Cup.
“That still excites me,” he said. 'It's playing for your country in the most important competition in the world.
'I have had the opportunity to do it before (Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022) and it is an incredible experience. If I get the chance again, I will try to grab it with both hands.”
Speaking about his willingness to leave last month, Rashford said: “For me personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”
'When I leave there will be no hard feelings.' You're not going to get any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person.
'If I know a situation is already bad, I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen other players leave in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I will make a statement and it will be mine.'
