Tottenham's preparations for Thursday night's Europa League clash against Hoffenheim were disrupted when fireworks were set off outside their hotel at 2am.

According to Mail Sport, a series of loud explosions that lasted for about five minutes on Thursday morning woke up many of the travelers who were at the complex, located about 30 minutes from a town in southwestern Germany.

While a small part of the group remained asleep, the majority had their sleep disturbed by the antics that, according to internal sources, are increasingly common before European matches abroad.

Ange Postecoglou's team faces their hosts knowing that a victory would significantly increase their chances of finishing in the top eight and automatically qualifying.

It would also mean they would be diverted from a two-legged tie in February, which could well prove valuable given an injury crisis that defies imagination.

While perhaps a minor irritant, the disruption adds to an already difficult situation for Tottenham.

While vice-captain Cristian Romero returned to training ahead of this match, Postecoglou will be without no less than 10 first-team players, while three others are unregistered.

In fact, the Spurs manager downplayed the situation in the pre-match press conference when his translator struggled to clear his throat. “Even my translator is hurt,” the Australian joked.
