New York Red Bulls are interested in signing Timo Werner, who is on loan at Tottenham from RB Leipzig, mail sport understand.
Werner extended his loan spell with Spurs in the summer, initially joining last January, but his second campaign at the club has fallen short of expectations.
The 28-year-old has played just 500 minutes in the Premier League this term and made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring just once.
Werner was openly criticized by Ange Postecoglou earlier this season after being roped in at half-time of the 1-1 draw with Rangers in the Europa League.
“I wasn't playing anywhere near the level I should have,” Postecoglou said. 'When you have 18-year-olds, it's not acceptable to me. I told Timo that.
Werner previously spent a two-year spell at Chelsea but was unable to replicate the form that earned him his eye-catching £53million move to Stamford Bridge.

Werner has scored just one goal this season after extending his loan stay with Spurs
Ange Postecoglou criticized Werner earlier this season, saying an exhibition was “not acceptable”
He returned to RB Leipzig in 2022, where he scored 11 goals in 35 Bundesliga appearances, before moving to Tottenham in January 2024.
However, any potential departure would leave Spurs short-handed up front, with Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson currently injured.
Internal discussions have seen Tottenham weigh a move for Evan Ferguson in Matheus Cunha from Brighton or Wolves, although they are understood to have ruled out a move for Ajax striker Brian Brobbey.
Werner is currently unavailable due to a hamstring problem he picked up in the FA Cup win over Tamworth, and a return date has not been confirmed.
Postecoglou believes the club is 'playing with fire' if they don't recruit this month.
“I'm not trying to find opportunities for the club,” Postecoglou said. 'That is not my role at the moment. There is no time to do it.
'But I have daily communication with Johan (Lange, technical director) and he is trying everything he can to get the help we need.
'I don't think I'm stating anything more than the obvious and for me to come here and say anything else would be false.
'This playing group needs help, there's no doubt about that.
“We are playing with fire by not bringing anyone in, but the flip side is that the club is doing everything in its power to try to change that situation.”
