Justin Verlander will play for the San Francisco Giants in his 20th MLB season after signing a one-year, $15 million contract on Tuesday, it was revealed.
The two-time World Series champion and nine-time All-Star was a free agent after leaving the Houston Astros and has now landed on the west coast.
News of his arrival in San Francisco was first reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan, who revealed that the pitcher, who turns 42 next month, reached an agreement on Tuesday.
The deal is pending a physical, according to the report, and will see Verlander play for the fourth different team in his 20-year major league career.
There has been speculation that Verlander would finish his historic career this winter, but he will get another year on the mound.
He made his MLB debut in July 2005 with the Detroit Tigers, playing for the franchise for 12 years and being named American League MVP in 2011.
Justin Verlander has battled injuries during his latest stint with the Houston Astros.
He is married to model Kate Upton and the couple has a daughter together, born in 2018.
He moved to the Astros in 2017, where he won two World Series titles, before spending a year with the New York Mets and then returning to Houston.
Away from the baseball field, he is married to model Kate Upton; The couple first met in 2014, got engaged in 2016, and then married a year later.
Her first child was born in 2018 and she is regularly pictured in the stands cheering on her husband.
