Virgil van Dijk has insisted that he remains “calm” about his contractual situation despite not expecting any news.
The 33-year-old Dutchman is one of three Liverpool stars who are out of contract this summer and is now free to sign a pre-agreement with clubs outside England.
Most of the attention surrounding the trio has focused on Mohamed Salah, who has made several public statements on the matter, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was the subject of a £20m bid from Real Madrid last week. .
This has meant the Reds captain has been largely absent from speculation. However, he has addressed the uncertainty and insisted he remains calm about his future.
“Nothing,” he said when asked by Sky Sports if there was anything new on the contract front.
Asked if he expected any update soon, Van Dijk replied: “I don't think so, but I'm calm about it, as I said months ago.”
Virgil van Dijk's representatives would have informed Real Madrid of his willingness to join the Club this summer
The Spanish giants would have rejected the possibility of signing the center-back in favor of looking for “other profiles” that would better adapt to the team.
Carlo Ancelotti's team is very interested in signing right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also ends his contract in the summer
'We will see what happens in the future and at this moment I don't have any updates. At the moment, it's about focusing, for me and the team, on the Spurs (Wednesday night). It will be a difficult game again, but a good semi-final (of the Carabao Cup).
Van Dijk has returned to his best form this season under Arne Slot, whose team impressed in the first half of the campaign.
Last month, the veteran defender stated that he has “three or four years” left at the highest level and dropped an important clue about his contractual situation.
Speaking to Amazon Prime, he said: “I love the club, the club loves me. I love the fans, the fans love me and it's a very good foundation to be successful.
'In my opinion I can play another three or four years at least at the highest level. We will see what the future holds for us.”
In December, Van Dijk was offered a new contract but there was reportedly no progress in negotiations with the 33-year-old.
In the same interview, Van Dijk suggested that he aims to become the first Dutch captain to lead his team to the Premier League title.
“It's not about me, but I would love to be the first (the Dutch player),” Van Dijk added. 'I think it's there. That's why we work as a team.”
Reports in Spain claim that Van Dijk was rejected by Real Madrid after being offered to the European champions, but sources have denied the reports.
He is the second of three Liverpool stars who will soon be out of contract and have been linked with a move to the Spanish capital in recent weeks.
Madrid's interest in Trent Alexander-Arnold is long-standing and their determination to lure the Scouser away from his boyhood club was confirmed last week when a £20m bid was submitted for his services in January.
The Reds have little interest in letting the 26-year-old leave this month as they attempt to win the Premier League for the second time.
