An Edmonton Oilers fan's decision to throw nachos on the ice could be a first.
On Tuesday night, the league-leading Washington Capitals came to visit Edmonton in a matchup between two of the NHL's best teams.
With Washington leading 3-1, a tray of nachos was thrown onto the ice at Rogers Place, distracting Capitals goalie Logan Thompson.
That led Oilers center Leon Draisaitl to pass the puck to winger Corey Perry, who fired a shot just yards from the discarded food and beat Thompson to make the score 3-2.
Thompson immediately began pointing at the nachos with his glove and was seen complaining to the officials on the ice.

Thompson said he was distracted by a tray of nachos that was thrown onto the ice moments earlier.
However, the goal stood, but Perry (left) and the Oilers couldn't find a way to victory.
“I've never seen that before. Obviously, I have to play with the whistle. That's on me,” Thompson said. according to ESPN.
The goalkeeper added: “I saw the guy who threw them.” I wasn't very happy. But thanks to him, he scored a goal for them.”
According to the NHL rule book, Rule 63.5 says: “In the event that objects are thrown onto the ice that interfere with the progress of the game, the referee will blow the whistle and stop play and the puck will be faced in a given moment.” faceoff point in the area closest to the place where play was stopped.
In this case, the tray of nachos did not interfere with Perry's shot. The Oilers player later said, “I didn't even see them.” “I was focused on the work.”
Capitals coach Spencer Carbery admitted his surprise at the situation after the game: “It's the first time. We just talked about it in the coaches' office.
“I don't think I've ever seen a National Hockey League game with nachos on ice. Did they save them? Maybe we can take them to the locker room.”
Carbery added: “I didn't even notice them, and then the guys were shouting, 'There are nachos on the ice!' I thought, 'I don't know, can we challenge that?'
Washington held on for a 3-2 victory as it extended its lead atop the league. They are four points ahead of the Winnipeg Jets.
