Bobby Wagner's mandate in Washington is not over yet.
The veteran central supporter and heart of the defense of the commanders has agreed a contract for the next season, according to a person with knowledge of the measure. The person spoke with Associated Press on anonymity on Thursday because the agreement had not yet been announced.
Designed to meet 35 this summer, Wagner led the commanders with 132 cup during the regular season and was appointed for his tenth Pro Bowl. He made 25 more during his playoff career as the centerpiece of a very improved defense.
The very respected veteran accumulated a unit that went from the last in the league before he and several newcomers arrived to finish 13th under the first year coach, Dan Quinn, and the defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr.
“He is a coach in the field,” Whitt said about Wagner in January. 'He is the best leader. For him to be the Bobby Wagner, he is a humble man. He listens. He takes training. … take the younger boys, bring them (and is) a mentor. I can tell him and talk to him in the game and he could take what I am saying and communicate it very well to the players.
The financial terms were not immediately available, although the reports indicated that the agreement was guaranteed for $ 8 million and could be worth up to $ 9.5 million. That is an increase in the guaranteed $ 6 million signed a year ago when the new general manager Adam Peters was remakeing the list.

Wagner, who won the Super Bowl with Seattle in the 2013 season when Quinn directed the defense, developed a strong link with Jayden Daniels, the offensive rookie of the year and the face of the franchise.
“Obviously, I knew about him, but he didn't know him personally,” Daniels said. “But since I got here, we just got it well and he is like an older brother for me and everything, always giving game, taking care of us.”
With Wagner backwards, commanders can choose to add depth behind the veteran supporter in the NFL draft next month or focus on other areas of need. The right guard Sam Cosmi will probably be lost the 2025 season due to the knee injury he suffered in the playoffs, so the offensive line is undoubtedly consideration.
And with the recent acquisition of the former receiver of the 49ers of San Francisco Debo Samuel, Washington can no longer be motivated to add an annotation in the Draft.
The commanders fought against the race in 2024 and were able to use their first round selection to address the defensive line.
Washington signed Wagner again after bringing back to kick Zane González. Its contract is also for a year and it is worth the minimum wage of the league of $ 1.17 million, according to another person with knowledge of the agreement that spoke on condition of anonymity because financial terms were not revealed.

There is less pressure for commanders to add a receiver after landing Debo Samuel.
González was 7 by 8 in field goal attempts during the playoffs race after leaving 5 of 7 during the regular season. That included the winning kick in the Commodines Round in Tampa Bay that gave Washington his first victory in the playoffs in almost two decades.
“The organization is incredible, the incredible coaching staff,” González said in January about his time with the commanders. 'It has simply been really incredible, and I am incredibly grateful for the entire organization, sincerely, in general. Everyone here are truly incredible people. They put something special, and I am happy to be part of that and make my little part.
González, who turns 30 in May, joined Washington in November when the kicking Austin Seibert was dealing with an injury to the hamstrings. Subsequently, Seibert fell with an injury to the groin and González played all except a game for the rest of the way.
In his fourth organization since he debuted in the League in 2017, González was a 27 of 27 of 27 at extra points and praised teammates for how he handled each situation easily.
“It is almost as low maintenance as in terms that he has such a good attitude when he is kicking,” said Holder and Pinter Tress Way.

González went viral when the television cameras caught him by adjusting and readjusting a sock and putting his fingers down the hair several times before kicking the 37 -earthes to beat the Buccaneers during stellar schedule. He opened on his obsessive compulsive disorder a few days later, hoping that his story could help others.
“There are all kinds of people who walk through life dealing with day -to -day (base) fights, and much of it is at home that people do not see: for example, as last night restoring my alarm about 100 times making sure that it is good for my wife's nerves a little, but sometimes it is how it goes,” Gonzalez said.
“Simply listen to the stories and things of other people who deal in that sense, it is always interesting to listen to it, and it has been quite good to see that the community joins and helped you a little.”
Peters still has a lot of space to spend, with the free agency that will open next week. Now that Wagner is back in the fold, the attention focuses on returning to the closed wing of veteran Zach Ertz, who revitalized his career by becoming a kind of security valve for Daniels in the Kliff Kingsbury offensive.
