West Ham are set to sack Julen Lopetegui today as they head towards appointing Graham Potter as their new boss.

Potter has been in talks with owner David Sullivan for the past 48 hours with a view to replacing Lopetegui.

Those talks are now in their final stages and, once completed, Lopetegui is expected to be formally relieved of his duties.

Lopetegui's press conference scheduled for Wednesday afternoon has been cancelled.

Sources close to Lopetegui know that his dismissal is now only a matter of time.

Mail Sport revealed on Tuesday that there is still hope a deal can be done for Potter, who has been out of work since his sacking by Chelsea in April 2023, despite an apparent delay.

Julen Lopetegui will be relieved of his duties as West Ham manager following the team's dismal run of form.

Sources said on Tuesday night that discussions were “delicately prepared” as the Hammers look to agree a deal for the Englishman.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, Lopetegui had not yet been formally told that he was losing his job.

Interestingly, Everton, who are deciding whether to sack Sean Dyche, are believed to have some level of interest in Potter.

Sources have indicated that there have been concerns at the London Stadium that the opportunity to join Everton under a new owner is an attractive prospect for Potter.

Ideally, West Ham would want Potter to take the job initially until the end of the season before reassessing him. It is understood that the duration of the contract is a point that still needs to be resolved.

In essence, the club has been working on a plan B in case Potter turns down the job.

Among those believed to be under consideration is Christophe Galtier, who is currently the head coach of Qatari club Al Duhail.

Long-term target Paulo Fonseca also remains on West Ham's radar. Fonseca came close to joining the club in the past and is currently out of work after leaving AC Milan at the end of last year.

Mail Sport understands that it would be relatively easy to close deals for Galtier and Fonseca, as both candidates are aware of West Ham's interest. Edin Terzic and Michael Carrick also have admirers at West Ham.
