West Ham invoked concussion protocols while treating Lukasz Fabianski following the goalkeeper's sickening clash with Southampton defender Nathan Wood on Boxing Day.
Fabianski received around eight minutes of treatment in worrying scenes at St Mary's after taking a knock to the head and neck in the first half of their win over Southampton.
And Mail Sport can confirm that doctors on the pitch treated the former Arsenal star as a concussion case.
West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui provided a positive update on Fabianski's condition after the match, saying the Pole was conscious and talking.
However, Fabianski, who is being closely monitored and expected to undergo a routine check by outside doctors before he becomes available again, will miss Sunday's clash against Liverpool due to guidelines set that a player should not return to competitive action for at least six days after a concussion.
“He had a big bump on his head and neck and he wasn't very sure of his actions.
“Fortunately the news is that he is talking, he is alert, he is conscious,” Lopetegui said.
'The doctors say he feels better and well. I am positive with him. 'It showed that he had more or less regained his common sense.
'I'm not afraid. “We were afraid but now it is better and it is a positive feeling because we were very worried.”
