West Ham suffer a major injury as captain and top scorer Jarrod Bowen suffers a broken foot in the latest setback for Julen Lopetegui's side.

West Ham have suffered a major injury and it has been confirmed that Jarrod Bowen suffered a broken foot in their loss to Liverpool.

The Hammers announced Bowen's injury in a brief statement on their website.

“West Ham United can confirm that Jarrod Bowen suffered a broken foot in Sunday's Premier League match against Liverpool,” the statement read.

“The injury to his left foot, suffered in the first half at the London Stadium, will keep the Hammers captain out for the New Year.”

Bowen was forced to retire on the hour of West Ham's dismal 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

The England international had limped off after a challenge with Alexis Mac Allister.

West Ham have not revealed how long Bowen is expected to be out for, but the captain's absence will be another blow for Julen Lopetegui's side.

Bowen is the Hammers' top scorer in the Premier League this season with five goals in 19 games.

He has also recorded four assists in the top flight so far this campaign, making him the only West Ham player to have scored more than one goal.
