Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has been banned for two matches and fined £80,000 by the FA following an altercation with a member of the Ipswich staff earlier this month.

The Brazilian put his hand in the face of a security officer as tempers flared after the final whistle of Wolves' dramatic defeat to the Tractor Boys.

Cunha, who has played for the Midlands club despite his difficulties, was allowed to take part in matches against Leicester, Manchester United and Tottenham while his case was reviewed.

But the 25-year-old will now miss Wolves' Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Monday, as well as the third FA Cup round trip to Bristol City.

New Wolves boss Vitor Pereira may be counting his blessings for the miss, given the striker is likely to miss some time anyway after coming off at half-time of the weekend draw with Spurs.

Speaking ahead of the clash in north London, Pereira, who has enjoyed an unbeaten start since replacing Gary O'Neil at Molineux, indicated the club expected Cunha to receive a suspension.

“We are trying to prepare other players because when that happens we must be prepared with other players,” the Wolves coach said.

“They are working, they are doing a good job, they are trying to understand the idea, the intention of what we want, with and without the ball, waiting for an opportunity.”

Wolves are preparing for a nervy January, with growing interest in their star man, who has scored 10 goals and provided four assists for the 17th-place team in the table.

The likes of Manchester United and Arsenal could test the club's resolve when the window opens on Wednesday.
